As a queer radical care worker and death doula, Katherine (they/she) has worked closely with both elders and adults with disabilities. They were trained by a life deeply lived, and by the revolutionary Going with Grace, and she is a member of the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance. She has collaborated in Chicago for 20+ years with young people and artists as a facilitator and art teacher. Katherine now organizes, practices mutual aid and care with disability justice activists, care workers and sw collectives. As a community member, elder queer, parent, artist, partner to two other queers and gardener, Katherine believes deeply in our humanity and everyone’s inherent beauty, value, joy, grief and autonomy. Through her work and relationships, she heralds the importance of love and vulnerable community connection in our fight for collective liberation and justice for all those oppressed. Death teaches us so much about living.

Holistic Support I offer non-medical holistic support at any point through life and the end of life journey. This varies and can take the form of emotional, spiritual, and/or practical care and planning. I offer tenderness, dialogue, resources and personal care for individuals and their circle of care.

My goal is to support you in making informed decisions, often within hostile systems, in ways that feel right for you.

As a doula I specialize in supporting your quality of life, exploring and celebrating legacy, encouraging reflection, intimacy, heart healing and connection. All towards whatever a good death means for you.

Practical and Personal How I might support you and your circle of care

  • Provide brave space to speak openly and frankly with you and your loved ones about dying
  • Talk about creating an advance care directive
  • Explore and celebrate the meaning of your life and legacy
  • Discuss and support end-of-life care planning
  • Develop a plan for how the space looks, feels and sounds
  • Incorporate traditions or create new rituals to mark special moments
  • Bring a focused and intuitive presence to the bedside
  • Assist with physical and practical care to ease the burden on caregivers
  • Provide respite for exhausted caregivers
  • Explain the signs and symptoms of the dying process
  • Process the emotions and experiences with you and your circle of care
  • Support the spiritual practices of all involved
  • Guide people through the early stages of grieving
